Russian is classified as an Old East Slavic Language with over 260 million speakers. The Cyrillic alphabet was employed after Russia adopted Christianity. As a language, it shares similarities with Belorussian and Ukrainian. It is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine recognize it as a regional language and it's still used in places like Central Asia, the Baltics, and former Soviet states.
